Botox Q&A

What is Botox?

Botox injections are a minimally invasive treatment option for migraine headaches. Botox blocks the release of pain transmission chemicals in nerve endings around the injection site preventing the activation of pain networks in the brain.

What are the Benefits?

Migraines are much more severe than regular headaches, and when the condition is chronic, quality of life is radically reduced. BOTOX is an FDA-approved migraine treatment that works very differently than treatment with pain medication.

How Does it Work?

Rather than reducing the symptoms of an existing headache, BOTOX works to prevent future headaches.

When treating migraines with BOTOX, the treatment requires only about 15 minutes. During this procedure, your doctor will inject BOTOX into targeted areas in the forehead, temples, and the back of the neck. The injections target the nerve endings that cause pain. The product prevents the nerve endings from transmitting pain signals, relieving the pain experience in a migraine.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

To maintain the pain-relief from chronic migraines, it is recommended that you get BOTOX treatments every 12 weeks.

When Will I Feel Better?

Many patients will require more than one treatment to achieve relief. It is recommended that you undergo at least two treatments. BOTOX trains the muscles in your head and neck to relax, but it takes time for the product to do its work.

Your treatment is customized, and every person is different in the quantity needed to relieve the pain of chronic migraines.
