What to Expect
Preoperative instructions:
- Do not eat or drink anything after midnight before your surgery
- Take medications only as inctructed by anesthesiologist or surgery staff
- Leave jewelery and valuables at home
- Remove nail polish from at least one finger on each hand and wear minimal makeup
- Wear glasses instead of contacts
- We will call you the day before the surgery to answer and questions and remind you of the instructions
The day of surgery:
- The center opens at 7:00am. Please arrive one hour before your scheduled surgery time
- Bring your insurance and pharmacy information
- Wear comfortable clothing
- Notify the receptionist of your arrival so she can notify the surgery staff
- Inside the surgery center an I.V. may be started and a surgery consent form must be signed
- You will likely change into a surgical gown and be prepped for your procedure
- The anesthesiologist may have questions
- After surgery you will stay in the recovery room for 1-2 hours or until your blood pressure is normal, you are fully awake, your pain is under control, and you are free of nausea
- You must have someone drive you home.
- Be sure to read any discharge instructions
